A new USAID-funded study used Collect Earth Online (CEO) to devise a novel solution to the thorny problem of estimating the area devoted to specific crops, as well as the area of forest loss. The research should help improve estimates of carbon storage and loss in developing countries.

CEO Featured as a Key Tool in New OpenMRV Website
On 22 June 2021, the Global Forest Observation Initiative (GFOI) and the World Bank launched OpenMRV, an open-source repository for user-friendly measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) support resources and instructional materials. Users of Collect Earth Online (CEO) are taking advantage of a CEO feature called the Geo-Dash Degradation Tool that allows them to monitor forest degradation.

CEO Survey Reveals Dedicated Worldwide User Base
To better understand and serve users, the creators of Collect Earth Online issued a survey in March 2021. Input was collected from more than 110 CEO users working for NGOs and government agencies in 58 countries. The survey revealed that CEO has attracted a global community of users who rely on the platform to drive high-impact work monitoring deforestation and other types of land use change.
